On March 3, 2003 I flew to Germany to attend the funeral of a colleague from Berlin

There were some amazing works of art which have lasted through several wars

The Bandenburg Gate

The border between the former East and West Berlin

A replica of The Thinker

The former East Berlin.

The famous guard tower where the East German Police watched the wall

Aeroflot

Humboldt University

The "Neue Wache" - Central Memorial of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Victims of Tyranny

Inside the Neue Wache

A very somber place

The Opera House

One of the oldest churches in Berlin

A tremendous amount of reconstruction is taking place all over Berlin

The art musuem

Another view of the church

For sale - East German and Soviet paraphernalia

A synagogue which survived the Holocaust

The Jewish section of Berlin is thriving

An old church which was nearly destroyed in World War II

The view of the church before the war

After the war
